I think anyone that can't go home happy without an animal shouldn't be hunting. It should always be about the experience. I think 1/2 of why I hunt is to get away and hunting takes me places I probably wouldnt go if I wasnt going hunting them.
It's what I look forward to every year!!! As soon as I get home I can't wait to go back! I have two other buddies I go with. We usually only get one tag between us, but we all enjoy the hunt as much as the guy with the tag! They are two of my closed friends and we only get together a couple times a year. We share the same passion for exploring new places few are willing to venture into.
so how was the Holy Cross hunt?
It was some awsome country!!!! I didnt see any deer or elk in the wilderness. May have heard 6 bugles some may have been other hunters. the only deer i saw was when we moved from one trailhead to another.
Middle lake area. East creek trail. Holy cross trail. We were up to 11400 or around there down to around 10000.
Glad you had fun. It is really cool country up in the Holy Cross.
I didn't make it to the lakes on the east creek trail. Locals told me to stay close to the trailhead when I went to that trailhead it was my last ditch effort.
On an early rifle hunt in thar countryyoun have to go deep and high. You need to be prepared to go in for 7 plus days. You have to get away from the wekkend hiker/campers and stay back up in there for a while. In my opinion.
