The replies you received, was because you asked a very forward question on one of your first posts. Most people would not walk up to someone they just met and ask them about the best place to hunt. That same etiquette tends to apply on hunting forums as well. But those kinds of questions are asked over and over again by new guys on hunting forums. That kind of question, especially when it is one
of their first posts, does not usually go over very well. VANISH said it well, "that is not the kind of question to ask".

I hope you hang around, share your experiences and contribute. If you do, you will likely develop relationships with guys who would be more then happy to give you some advice. If the advice is specific, it is usually shared in PMs (personal messages) so its not out there for the whole world to read.

I couldn't have said it better myself.

Arco ID used to have some great elk hunting. I've hunted the Tex Creek and Palasades areas for years and they both are horrible now from what they used to be IMO. I know Arco is a draw but I don't know the odds. I've always bought OTC.

Well here I am a new member and ready to meet some great new people. I have lived in Idaho and there are many great units for elk. The Arco area is good but OTC tags are the best way to go, and as for the state record coming from the desert mmmm I have seen some monsters in other OTC units.

Well asking where a hunters honey hole is is like asking how big his wifes tits are.

Seriously. Elk like high mountains, timber, water. They are socially shy towards people.
So that being said, find a spot that looks like that and do what we all do. Scout it, hunt it, cry over it, dream about next years perfect results.
And no im not saying how big they are.... Lol
    I hunt because........

I've seen some big bulls late in the year in 52A, but the elk don't migrate through there like they did 10 to 15 years ago. There are still some big bulls that walk through there, but plan on spending a great deal of time glassing and waiting for one to show himself. Jumping one out of his bed is like finding a needle in a hay stack. Your best chance is finding migration routes, glassing points, and camping out for a few days at least late in the year.

haisen called it. only reason i dont hunt that unit. however, the biggest sheds i have ever found have been on that unit. i enjoy hunting the timber and quakies, not much of an open desert guy. i dont have the balls to handle the rattle snakes out there.... yuck! wolfman.... come on man cant leave us hanging like that... haha jk.

Dying to kill i like your question and if i was from colorado i would help you. Just because someone tells you a good unit doesn't mean you are going to automatically know where they are. I am sure colorado has quite a few good units. It isn't ignorant to ask a guy what is a good unit to hunt. If you said hey what mountain do you hunt then it would be a problem. Call the game and fish down there and ask them about the second season rifle and see what they say they might have some good advice for you.
