I have 1 point and was thinking of rifle hunting 57&58> Anyone know the quality of deer here? Any other ideas for a 1 point Mule deer hunt?

57 is tied in with unit 49. I doubt you'll get a tag with 1 point.

Yes, I am aware of that. DOW stats say it takes 1 point so we will see

Lets look at the stats again. You didn't say buck or doe, so i'll give both.

Doe..........2nd rifle.....36 tags offered.........309 hunters tried for the tags as a 1st pick....8 had 3points or more....37 had 2 points. That takes up all the tags, and even those with 2 points. Didn't all get a tag. So, 1 point has no chance.

Doe......3rd rifle.....36 tags again......192 hunters tried as a 1st pick......29 had 2 points or more.... That leaves 7 tags for those with 1 point....56 had 1 point like you....Only 7 of those 56 got a tag. So, you have a chance at that one, but not good odds.


Buck...2nd and 3nd rifle..... The stats combine the two seasons, so it can be confusing.....1530 tags offered......3279 hunters tried as a 1st pick...254 had 2 points or more....that leaves 1276 tags.....1415 had 1 point......So yes, you could get a buck tag with 1 point, but it's not a guarantee. 139 hunters with 1 point. Won't get a tag.

As for deer in the units. They'll be lots of them for those seasons. Quality i'm not sure of. Two many hunters for me to hunt them, and I live only a mile from 49. Which should be the best unit.
