    Elk license

im asking to see which western states use the lottery system for elk license and which states i can just go purchase annon resident license and go hunt. im asking the question because i simply dont know which states just sell an over the counter elk tag. Im not concerned about a trophy unit at this moment in time just want to go out and hunt for the first time. Ill worry about a trophy unit after trying a western hunt

    edford8,

What you should do is go to google, and look up all the different Game department websites for all the states. Quite a few eastern state have elk hunts now too. I am not sure which ones, you'll have to look that up.

Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Colorado, Utah, Arizona, California, Washington, Oregon, Nevada, Alaska, New Mexico, North Dakota and South Dakota all have elk seasons.

The non-resident laws are greatly different for each state. So you will want to do some research. I would call Eastmans Journal and find out if you can buy a copy of the 2012 Elk issue.

Of course there are also 3 sub species of elk across all those states.
