    NM elk - 16E

My father and I just got back from our elk hunt in our 3rd choice unit - 16e. Guided hunt, very well run. He got his opening morning, they made me earn mine!

My bull was broke up and had his left eye put out from fighting.

Using the Tyvek sheet as an emergency tarp/clean sheet to put meat on.

Biggest bull we saw was est a 330 class bull, saw a couple 320 class and his rough scored around 310.

Hey doenob- good job and way to persist. Your hard work paid off. Did you have to pack out on your back or could you get a truck/ATV close?

Can't drive off road period in most of new mexico I think and def in this unit. 3 of us packed my dads bull 1.25 miles over a ridge in 2 trips, 2 of us packed my bull a little over a half a mile in 2 trips. Boned out the hinds but not the shoulders in both instances.

It helps to properly secure your load, this trip SUUUUUCKED:

Got my euro mount back and hung already. Check out the left orbital bone - shattered from fighting, you can see in post one he's blind in his left eye.

Looks good. That's a pretty blue wing behind him.
