    Nikon vs. Vortex

Ended up at Basspro this afternoon with a coworker and checked on the glass. The Nikon Prostaff, for $159, is a good deal for the price. Nikon Monarchs are nice glass, but after trying the Vortex Diamondbacks, im sold. The monarchs go for $249, and the diamondbacks go for $239. Just seemed to be brighter, better quality, and just a better fit. Settled on the 8x42 Diamondbacks with a Butler Creek strap. One more puchase yet,,,,,,,well, maybe 2?

I have the Nikon monarchs and was very happy until I scratched them, still use them for other things, then replaced with Vortex Viper, happy with both. The Nikon lens caps were horrible. Vortex caps were much better.

I had nikon and have switched over all of my optics to Vortex. I love them all!! The viper scope is awesome and I recently purchased a Vortex Skyline spotting scope for my mule deer hunt in Wyoming and it is quit impressive. I think you made a good choice on the Vortex. Also if you have any issues just go to Vortex's website and print off the warranty slip, fill it out, and ship your item and they will clean it and fix it and have it back to you in about 4-6 days, no questions asked.

I think Nikon is easier to get focused, and is built better. Granted each company will have a certain amount of defect problems, as stated previously, Nikon's are usually due to the objective lens covers, while Vortex is an all-around quality control issue, never quite sure what might go wrong. From what I've seen people mistake their love of the warranty with their love of the binocular (or other glass).
