    Nebraska Sandhills Mulie

Just got back from my Mulie hunting trip and had a great time. This was our first trip out there and figured it was more of a scouting trip rather than hunting. I managed to find a group of does and a small 2x2 in a group. I talked to the Game and Parks and they told me to hang around the does because it was the end of the rut. Well I never caught back up with them because we were checking out the ground for potential hunting spots. I had the group within 300 yards and almost took one of the does but figured I was there to hunt bucks so I passed on the group. We didn't see anything much bigger than the 2x2 and was told that the numbers were down from the last few years.

My question is should I have stayed with the group to see if any other bucks would have shown up? This was our first hunting trip up there for deer and the place we were at was 115,000 acres and we hadn't covered much of the ground. I found a spot that I would like to look over next time we go but I needed to bring a boat to get there so next year I will be bringing a boat.

I purchase a boat from the Eastman's store and it actually helped even though it was for High Country Mule Deers.

From what I have read, in the rut it pays to stay with does. If you can get 2-3 different groups of does pinned down then keep checking on them, something good should show up, the big boys are cruising.

Wish I was still up there, our trip was only 4 days, I hope next year will be a little longer. Thanks for you reply,

Oh yes! In the rut, stick with the does! Something will show up!

You have to stick with the does, especially a hot doe.The little bucks will tell you witch one is hot.Something will surely show up.
