I would think you'd want it to range that far. Have you ever thought of using it to help plan your stalk? Say you range the buck at 800, then you can range a rock or a tree at 500 for example... that way you can set yourself up for a 300 yard shot.

Agreed, the farther you can range with a range finder the better. Yes, I have been in that type of situation needing to cut the distance in order for a good shot, and never been disapointed with my rangefinder. Sure, I know there are better ones out there and the day my Nikon lets me down I'll upgrade, but until then I'm content with it. Sorry I got off topic as to which range finder is best, I was mostly just curious if anyone else out there was using Nikons.

I'm gonna pick myself up a Leica this year !
I just upgraded to the Bushnell Fusion and they are the best I have seen.
I have a leica rangemaster 1200(small, clear, bright red readout, fast) I also have a bushnell bowhunter, "chuck adams edition" (slow, hard to read black readout, doesn't work in low light conditions, sometimes doesn't work in bright conditions...garbage.)
I got tired of carrying 2 pieces of optics, eg. binos & rangefinder. Bought a Swarovski combo that is a 1500 yd rf and an 8x monocular. It is fantastic, best optics I have ever owned and I only carry it, nothing more.

so when I posted on this thread origanly I talked up the lieca 900 since then it broke! I tried to contact leica to send it in and get it fixed they said sorry can't fix it but we will sell you our new model at a discount. I wasn't to happy with that response I feel like they should back and repair their product. never-the-less buying the newer model at a discount was better than trying a different brand so take that for what it is worth. I now have the leica crf 1600 got it a week ago and so far so good, hopefully it lasts longer than my last one (5 yrs).

Such a young optic device...too bad they cant fix it. But at least a discount on the nicer one.
Thanks for the feedback on their customer service level too!
