There's nothing better than blowing a shot early in the hunt, working thru the despair, then having it all come back together and making a great kill later

I took my biggest buck back in 2008. I hunted the Late Season Archery Extended Wasatch Front hunt in Utah. It was only my 2nd year hunting in Utah as a resident. I found a place where the deer were traveling through on a regular basis. I placed a tree stand and was sitting for 7-8hrs a day on the weekends starting in November with 80 plus hours in the stand. I couldn’t hunt the weekdays since I just started a new job and didn’t have any vacation time. I didn't see a lot of deer only 11 total and 6 in one day but they were all does and fawns. I knew there was a big buck coming through the area since I saw his tracks numerous times in the snow. Since it was the rut I figured it was only a matter of time before mister big would wander by. Well my last weekend too hunt bucks came. I sat Saturday and had one forkie buck come by and I passed him up at 16yds. I climbed in my stand on Sunday the last day I could hunt for bucks. All my friends told me I was crazy sitting for all those hours and seeing so little deer. About 11:13am my stomach started growling. I said well I’ll eat something about 11:30am. I looked to my right nothing so I turned to look to the left nothing, but out of the right corner of my eyes I caught movement I turned my head slowing and here came mister big. He came by and stopped at 15yds broadside. I pulled back my less than a month old Katera bow and placed my pin on his vitals. When the bow went off and I saw the arrow hit the deer in the sweet spot and knew he wouldn’t go far since it was a text book shot. He ran about 30yds stopped wobbled for a few seconds and went down. He’s a 6 X 7 and is 30inches wide. My buddies never question my patience now!

Awesome archery muley Maxhunter. It has taken me too many years to realize that patience pays off. I hope some of the younger hunters out there can take note of this good advice.........sure wish I had when I was just starting out!

Very nice buck! I'm still waiting to be able to punch a tag on the extended. Hunted it many times just couldn't put it all together. Good job.

You could try safari stalkers or sneaky pete. Both products slip right over your hunting boot and help reduce noise. I also have a pair of neoprene socks that I wear. They provide a little extra cushion when wearing shoes and when stalking, they help keep thorns and grass from tearing up the bottoms of your feet.

I also have stalked in my socks and paid for it for the next two days but it was bitter sweet after taking my 150 mulie at 30 yards with the hoyt !
