Unit 444 Elk Rifle

I've got some buddies wanting to hunt unit 444 for otc rifle this year. They heard 444 was a decent elk area & physically easy hunt. Just wondering if anyone on here has hunted this area for elk? They just want to kill a legal bull elk. They do not have horses or mules. So they are looking to hunt on foot/backpack only.

I've spent some time in this unit over the last several years. I like it because there is a lot of varied terrain and lots of public land. That being said, the unit gets pounded. It's within a couple hours of where I live so it's nice to go over there in the summer for scouting. Lots of bears in the unit.

Thanks, I'll pass the info on to them. They have never hunted elk & want go somewhere in CO this fall otc rifle.
