Well, after looking at the new moon schedule this year... Looks like I will be hunting right on the tails of the biggest redneck yahoo party of the year. I hope the animals calm down enough to get close. I really hate hunting full moon weeks because elk get so quiet in the day hours after being active all night. I love that third week of September though, as the elk seem to be more engaged in the rut and more vocal than early in the month.
Puts me in a conundrum now.... Stick to what works on time, or stick to what works by moon schedule. Never really faced a decision like this one.
Paul!!??? I hunt right there out of town.... Whats your experience say in this split?
Your doing better than us poor guys in Oregon. Our archery elk season starts Aug 24th and ends on Sept 22nd. Its going to be a tough year in Oregon I predict.
Oregon always bases seasons around deer rifle season. They always start seasons on a Saturday and never let rifle deer season start later than Oct 4th. This year Oct 1st is on a a Tuesday so the rifle mule deer season will start Saturday Sept 28th and end Oct 9th. They alway have a week between bow and rifle seasons, so the last day of bow season is the 22ndof Sept. 2014 seasons will start a week later than this year since Oct 1 is on a Wendsday so Rifle deer will start on Oct 4th and end Oct 15th, and bow saeson will run from Aug 30 through Sept 28th. Its just one more thing I always consider before applying for tags. I have enough points to draw the deer tag I want this year, but I am waiting for 2014 when the season is a little later.
