elk / deer hunt units 77/78

My 2013 elk / deer hunt will be in 77/78. Since the elk tags are otc there is no concern there but the deer tags are a draw and i only got 1 point. has any one had any luck drawing this tag? if so with how many points

If I understand correctly you should draw that unit ok. That will be my second choice for deer and I won't draw my first choice since I don't have any points for deer. I am not trying to hunt elk in that unit. Lots of bear in that unit 78 if you wanted to consider carrying a bear tag. Good Luck, you can have a good hunt there.

According to hunters trailhead with 1 pp it was 29.1% odds in 2012.

talking bout colorado , i didnt get to go last year. Im not sure bout the elk hunting in this area iv heard more bad about the elk hunting in this area than good, really wantin a deer tag but dand sure aint goin in wit out elk tag

Have you considered muzz deer & otc archery elk? That is a nice combo hunt, muzz odds for deer are 77.2% with 1 pp in 77/78. 2nd season otc elk rifle is just a tough hunt. Me & my crew only hunt 1st rifle these days on a 2nd choice draw. We apply for a trophy area rifle 1st choice & a decent area 2nd choice to build points. If we don't draw, we go otc archery. Every 4-5 years we cash in on muzz points. There is a few decent units you can draw 2nd choice rifle, but that throws your deer hunt out the window.Attachment 5152Attachment 5153 Here is a bull my buddy killed in unit 78 last year with his bow. I wish i could consider an earlier hunt maybe even a archery hunt, if i could id still be puttin in with my inlaws crew that got an absolute honey hole in new mexico that they archery hunt but the fact of the matter is one of the draw backs to bein a farmer is i start plantin wheat first of september and lucky if done by end of first of rifle season so really second rifle is my only option.I do appriciate the advise tho i need all i can get esp from a fellow okie!!

You bet! I understand planting, of course I only plant 20-40 acres of wheat. Just for winter grazing cattle, we shoot a few deer off of it as well.

for sure, if i said i didnt turn out on a few of my pastures until after rifle season for any reason other than deer attraction id be lyin!
