    Red Desert Here I come!!

After living in Wyoming for 15 years and taking a bull elk every year that I lived there, I had to move away for work. Since that time, I've been playing the points game. I put in for a few years for Little Mountain, then switched to the Red Desert unit. It's been fun over the years visiting both areas and watching the elk, and have even been lucky enough to be on a couple of successful hunts with friends in those units. Now it's my turn, and I can't wait to get back into the Cowboy State and chase the Wiley Wapiti! There will be many scouting trips to come. Good luck to everyone else who put in. Happy Hunting.

If you drew unit 100, you are one lucky dude! I envy you as I've been trying for years and just gave up and used my points elsewhere.

    Good Luck!

I hunted unit 60 for pronghorn last year in mid-Sept and after seeing what unit 100 had to offer for elk I have stopped applying for it. The largest bull we saw during our pronghorn hunt wouldn't go above 220". I have moved on to a different unit after last year's hunt.

Did you see alot of bulls? How is the elk population? Also how was your antelope hunt? I've been applying for years for 60.

Unit 100 is an awesome area, I had the tag 2 years ago and killed a 353 bull on the second day. The trick with unit 100 is to locate the small herds of elk in the areas that people don't go. These are the areas where I found the biggest bulls and there horns weren't all busted up either. There are still big bulls out there, you just have to dig a little deeper to find them. Let me know if I can help.

Thanks for the encouragement guys. I have seen alot of smaller bulls in the area as bowhnt4x4 stated, but I've also seen some smokers as well. No matter what we find, it's going to be one heck of a fun hunt. With 10% odds this year having max points, I do feel very fortunate to draw. I looked at area 31 odds as well and they were still down at 2%. I'd rather be lucky than good any day. I'm going to try to hold out for a good one as long as I can, but I've also been known to have an itchy trigger finger. I tend to get a tad excited..
