Savris Creek area Unit 15 Colorado

Anyone hunt it in 2012? I'm heading out for a semi-guided bow hunt the last week of Sept this year and was just wondering how the Elk hunting was. Heard there has been a lot of beetle kill the last few years, but the new grasses have been coming up. Hopefully this will be a good thing? If there is not as much dark timber, will this mean less elk in the area? This is my first trip out west, so not sure what to expect.

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

I'm confused. You have a guide. Why not ask him?

Ya know I get that all the time. I can sit and call, text, email and flat out bug my guide every two minutes.... OR i can use this Forum to talk Elk hunting..... I guess that why! I've never met so many "hunters" that don't want to talk hunting when it comes to Elk hunting. I'm from Ohio. I've never been West of Iowa in my life.... So I come on theses forums to ask questions, and talk elk hunting... I guess if I'm bugging everyone on here with my one request to find out how people did last year in that unit. Please forgive me! I'll look else where for tips, ideas, and questions.

    Sorry for wasting your time!

If you were on your own it would be different. I assume you hired a guide to guide you. He should know how the hunting is, or he's not much of a guide.

If you want to know stats. The DOW web site has all your answers. You can talk to the local warden to get specific answers too.

I hunted 15 in 2010 and it had plenty of dead areas from the beatle kill but there was still plenty of good timber left, i was in the north end of the unit around green creek. We did come across a outfitters tent but nobody was home, i didnt see any elk but there was plenty of sign but it seemed a little old, lots of bear sign to. There isnt many spots to set up high and glass because of the heavy timber, do you know what part of the unit you will be in?

Not really.... Just trying to get an idea what I should expect... Was wandering if anyone killed during bow season last year and what weeks they were out there.

i archery hunt this area religiously! And agree with the heavy timber. But there are high meadows you just have to know where they are! Your guide will know. I have consistantly killed bulls here during archery and i will hunt my son there rifle season. You will have a good hunt. It doesnt have the numbers as some other areas close by but still a good hunt. You should be excited and pumped!!!!!
