OTC Archery Elk DIY CO vs. ID?

Looking at OTC archery elk trip, bivouac 10 day or so hunt with a buddy. Hunted half a dozen yrs. including once in CO and ID.

Looking for anyone willing to help with suggestions on unit(s)/areas. PM or otherwise.

Not looking for strictly trophy, but decent bull, 5pt on up. Of course prefer getting away from crowds, probably tough to do in CO. Ok with tough terrain and probably 4-6 miles in, no horses or mules avail.

Thanks and will return the favor

Sorry bro, never hunted either one. Elk hunting university on CO parks and wildlife has tons of info. Best of luck.

Hunt CO, wolves in ID have made it a much more difficult hunt in my opinion. More game in CO.

Very true but you can hunt wolves in Idaho at the same time!

Horses/mules would be better for a hunt like that. Hot weather in bow season, and you'll be 4-6 miles in tough country. Two trips for two of you to get the meat out. More if you need to get camp gear out too. Can you do that without the meat going bad? You better be in great shape.

Both are good, I would probably choose Colorado because of the number of elk and 0 wolves. Musket Man makes a good point though, you can shoot wolves in Idaho.
A bad day in the woods is better than a good day at work.

I've hunted OTC DIY Colorado with success...also no worrying about grizzlies there.
