    Utah Spike ELk

    Quick question never hunted out of state before nor elk and want to try it. Is the spike elk hunt in utah worth the try. Willing to get off the beaten track and hunt so any opinion good or bad. thanks

    My First post I hunt everything I can here in Ca and will wallk and hike for hours to get off the beaten track.

    I would start by checking the harvest statistics for the various units in Utah and you can see what percentage of hunters are getting their elk. It would also help narrow your search as to which areas to concentrate on. This should be available on the Utah Division of Wildlife website.

    Just a thought, for me shooting a spike or a cow is not much of a difference, since it is basically a meat animal. There is a ton of exceptional cow elk hunting in Wyoming and other states.

    Utah has a good elk population, including spike elk, so if you are good at finding elk you should be able to get one.

    thanks for the info I will check into harvest records over past few years.
