    Arizona 5BN

Was looking for some help. My Dad and I drew Arizona 5BN Archery Tags. Any advice about this unit, would be greatly appriecated.

Can't make it down there before the season to scout, but should be able to hunt the full two weeks season. Any help would be nice.

I'm guessing you drew elk tags ? I've archery elk hunted 5BN for many yrs.. Have arrowed 5 cows and one bull there. I don't know if I should share though... LOL ! The elk are everywhere in that unit. Quite a few tanks and lakes/ponds also. From the monsoon's and rains in Aug. and Sept. there is usually plenty of water. I heard they were going to close the road in from the Observatory though so from there you would have to pack your camp in. Hint hint....

Please keep your eyes peeled for antelope. That is an awesome antelope unit, and I have enough points that I can draw pretty much any unit in the state now.
    Grand Slam #1005 + 2: Dall (1986 Yukon), Fannin/Stone (1987 Yukon), Bighorn (1988 Colorado Unit S-26), Stone (1995 British Columbia), Desert (2001 Nevada Unit 161), Bighorn (2009 Wyoming Unit 5)

    Hey Ump,
I've seen some nice lope bucks there and seems like more lope over the years. Always seems strange seeing them around pine trees. I've tried last few years to draw with no luck.
Have 13 pts. though. I drew 13A with 2 pts. in 1997. Ahh ! The good old days huh ?

Hey Don....A lot of guys I talk to consider 5B to be the best antelope unit in the state right now. I could have drawn it the last two years. As you mentioned, the frustration is the trees.

    Yeah Ump,
Strange hunting lopes in trees like deer. Not a lot of them but seen some nice ones. Can't draw with 13 pts... Have done well there on elk though. Deer are coming back also .

Don....I've just been buying antelope points since the year after they started the point system in Arizona. I want to pick a year I don't have a lot else going on and go to AZ for 3 weeks. My wife's best friend is in Phoenix, she'd have a great time hanging out with her. I'd like to scout for at least a week before and hunt the entire season. My goal is to kill a book buck sometime in my lifetime! I've ate tag soup a few times trying.

Thanks Skybuster! I have never applied in Arizona because of the non refundable license fee. But next year I will start applying for a middle of the road unit.
