Hey everyone I'm new to this forum. SoCal resident, I've spent a lot of time in D13, D11, and southern A zone.
Anyway, I got an A17 tag this year and plan on backpacking up into the John Muir Wilderness in the northern part of the zone.
At this time of year (mid August), what elevation can I expect to see deer? I'm going to hike from 9,000' to almost 11,000' feet and spend a couple days glassing basins with small lakes. Should I focus my glassing below the timberline closer to the thick vegetation around the lakes or are the bucks going to be higher up in the rocky slopes? Any other advice regarding high Sierra bowhunting would be appreciated!
I've seen a ton of them at 10,500 feet elevation for the December Goodale opener. Those deer will also live in the rockiest area you've ever seen without hardly anything growing.
