17 Elk bonus points in AZ

Some friends and I were having a debate a work today. What would it be worth to someone to be applicant B on an AZ elk application if applicant A had 17 bonus points?
Thanks and good luck this fall.

That might depend on how many points applicant B had?

Lets say they had between 2 and 5. Combining with applicant A would virtually guarantee them most archery bull hunts in the state.

It TOTALLY DEPENDS on applicant A who has 17 points and what their goals are and it should be their choice what to do with their points. With 17 points they are on the verge of some great tags, including some of the lesser quality early firearm tags.

I personally have 15 points for Arizona elk. I am within a few years of a Unit 9 archery tag. My son has 10 points and has never had a quality elk tag. I am seriously considering applying with him for a unit like Unit 1. In Arizona, they round the point up, so we would go in the draw with 13 points.

Unit 1 has some very nice bulls. Now after the fire the sky is the limit. Congrats on that Grand Slam.

I have 11 AZ points.... unit 9 in September or bust. You have 17 points, what have you been holding out for ? With 17 it would be hard for me to backup several years and settle for a unit I could have drawn a few years ago. I don't know what it would be worth but if your friends are nonres. it puts them up the ladder quit a ways . It ought to be worth an expense paid by them..... hunting trip in AZ.

My son has 17 NR points. He hasn't elk hunted one day in his life. Been busy with college, sports, etc... I have 7, not sure what to do, he can bow hunt 9 solo or we can bow hunt unit 1 together. Tough decision for us. Did I mention I have a lot of money invested in his points!!

Man, that's a lot of pressure to put on oneself! No time to hunt elk for 17 years...what is he, an indentured servant? You can't learn how to hunt elk by building a pile of points. At some point, you have to get out and do it. I guess he could go guided and shift some of that pressure onto the guiding service.

I wouldn't hunt two tags in 1 if it was me. Especially with a greenhorn. You'll be worrying about getting him a bull and he'll be worrying about you not getting one. Take the kid hunting in 9 and he'll be settled in by the time you get to 11/12 points for your own tag and he can pay back the favor.
