No they were wild elk according NM Game and Fish. They just happened to be on this particular ranch.

Poison was the first thing I thought as well. Like what was metioned above everything I've ever seen with EHD has resulted in the animals dying next to or in the water. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

If it was poison I think there would be other dead animals besides the elk in the area.

It's doubtfull that 100 head with EHD all died at the same time, overnight. I also think the animals were too spread out for lightning to be considered...Just my opinion, but it sounds like foul play. But who knows what the NM G&F will say.

I am from the Midwest and I have seen EHD hit us really bad a couple of times. This doesn't seem like that to me because there usually around water but not always, and you don't find them all bunched up together. Its usually 1 here and there.

It does seem really strange to me they are all dead so close together. I dont know much about this stuff but would cause them to all die like that? Its like they were all out feeding and just dropped over dead. Really it looks like a chemical weapons attack. But I really dont think anyone is using chemical weapons to take out elk herds in NM.
