    WY unit 80 2013

Well we were out there for the opener actually day and a half before to scout. First let me say the town of Cody id very cool. I miss how nice most people are out west. We were all successful and ice box did a very good job and treated us very fair. We went to proud cut one night for dinner and food was very good, but the service was horrible and we were only the second table in there. Now to the hunt. The area was very dry. The first full day of scouting we covered a bunch of land with only seeing a few antelope and nothing big at all. Even came across an area that had 4 dead cows spread across it. No matter where we went or how far we walked we never seen the numbers I thought we would. Largest group was 13 and on private ground. On public seen 6 together was the largest. Only once was there two bucks close together and they were trying to run each other off. All the bucks we killed were solo bucks, with 3 of them just hanging out on there knob by them selves not another antelope with in a mile. Well here is what we were able to come home with.

    75 yard shot

    100 yard shot

    300 yards shot

    360 yard shot

The country and towns up that way are cool but I have never found that region all that great for goat hunting. For the life of me I don't know why some of those units up that way are so highly regarded...83, 77, 78, 80. From what I have seen up that way you guys did well.

Did you see very many fawns? It seems like Golden eagles are everywhere and IMO they are putting a hurting on the young antelope.

Nice goats LostRiver. What I've heard about the units up there is that there are some quality goats but just not the numbers that you'll see in the Red Desert areas of central WY. It seems that your experience confirms that. Glad you guys were eventually successful. I really like that last one...nice and tall.

To be honest if I didn't see horns I didn't pay much attention to fawn/doe. I did find some public that was close to private that had several doe/fawns and several smaller bucks. I was looking for a doe that I didn't have to walk miles to get. Its funny how once you fill you buck tag they seem to pop up here and there. Those young bucks weren't very scared either. Only one blew at us and then followed us back to the truck blowing all the way as he paralleled us the whole ways staying about 75 yards away.
