My pack has the knives of Alaska. Cub bear/muskrat combo. Super sharp and holds an edge. Also a piranhta. Nice to just swap blades
I'm old school yes the havlons are super sharp, but I only want to buy something once.that said brings issue 2 since all the American steel mills have closed down its hard to get good steel, so you have to look at what kind of steel the knife you like is made of, to find a good knife that sharpens easy and holds an edge good you have to pay for the higher quality steel, it's a sting to the pocket book but you'll have the knife your looking for, and not buying refills all the time, what is your travel time, gas and wear and tear on your truck worth?
I have had a kershaw for about 15 yrs. If my wife would let me I'd sleep with it. Holds an edge well and very easy to sharpen.
I've probably got a dozen knives but the one I always use is a Buck Lite. My favorite. I also carry a Eze Lap sharpener in my day pack.
Every hunting season you miss is one you can not make up.
Bar none the best the best knife i own is the one i made out of a old saw mill blade. BUT, my cutco is a very close 2nd. I have tried outdoor edge, buck, schrade, spyderco, & gerber. None of these kinives hold a candle to my cutco. The cutco is lite, great handle, easy to sharpen, holds an edge, & tough. I like the orange handle so i can find it. At 80 bucks you can't go wrong.
I'm another for Havalon and Kershaw. I've never had any problems with either
Best knife I have is one made by a guy on the central coast of CA named Mike Sheridan. Dont think he makes knives much anymore, I got one of the last ones he has made. Hands down one of the best hunting knives I've seen. I will not go hunting with out it, that said the havalon is always with me also.
Nice to see I'm not the only one on the planet that doesn't think the Havalon is the best thing since sliced bread! I tried it on two animals only to pick up another knife to finish the job. I quickly sold it... I'm the minority though. Most guys love it.
I bought a Havalon a while back due to all the hype and I can now say I'm not a fan. I always throw it in my pack because it's so light but never end up using it. I'll stick with Lone Wolf. I also really like Buck and Kershaw but Lone Wolf makes one heck of a knife.
