    WY cow / Calf

I'm looking at applying for a reduced price cow/calf tag next year. I looked at the stats, and a lot of areas have good success, but I was hoping to get some info from you residents. I'm 61 but in very good shape and still able and willing to pack an elk out a few miles if I have to. I talked to the warden while hunting deer in 118 this year, and he said they had lot of elk in area 61 they needed to get rid of. There were still cow tags available, but I was leary of hunting an area without doing some research on it. I'd like to hunt an area with good success, lots of publice land or private land where access can granted for free or a very small fee. Any tips or info would be greatly appreciated.

Success rates go up in the late season when the snow flies. Then, the elk bunch up and and come down off the mtn.

I would look at the Bighorns and plan for late November, early December.

You might be interested in Areas 40 or 41.
