I've have the Oregon 450 with Hunting GPS maps for the terrain and land status data. I'm very happy with that. I had the 400 before that.

I'm sure the 650 would be great but will be more money.

I have the oregon 450 with hunt maps. I really want the oregon 650. I played with one at sportsmans warehouse. The screen seemed better, touchscreen was more responsive, and it was faster at loading. The oregon 650 also uses WAAS and GLONASS. I'm curios if this makes more accurate than the oregon 450. Also the camera is supposed to be better than 550 model.

I havn't really had mine long enough to answer your questions. I also have the chip for GPS Hunting Map for Colorado that shows land status. I really like mine so far. I was going to get the Montana, but after I actually held one, it just seemed too big to me.

Would buy another in a heart beat, also got mine at the Cabellas sale last year.
Wow... would you mind looking through your settings and seeing if anything pops out... I feel like if I could temporarily turn off the full color feature that would help. Within the first hr I get low battery warnings and it says I can't use back light. Maybe I should have my back light turned off the entire time? I do know I have it set for the shortest time but maybe I just shouldn't use that feature.

Thanks again for the help in advance.

***If the problem is that severe, then there has to be something wrong with the GPS to cause your problem or you have a batch of bad/old batteries. Could the latter be a source of your problem?

My hunting partner was having that same problem with his Montana (low battery within 1 hour). If I recall correctly, I went into the setting menu on his gps and enabled the 'power saver' mode. Also, you should be able to change how quickly it automatically turns off the light and 'goes to sleep'. I would think the menu on the Oregon and the Montana should be very similar. Hope that helps.

Use lithium ion batteries, helps a lot, I left mine on in the truck overnight and it still had battery for two more days
