    Good morning from a newbie

Will be going on elk hunt with my son for the first time in 2014. This looks like an awesome site to pick some brains of some elk hunting gurus. I did a google search on Magnus 5 and it brought me to this site. Anyway, look forward to seeking info on here. Merry Christmas.

Welcome to the forum. Guys on here are more than willing to give you some general info. We were all newbies once.

Just like I tell the other new guys, pick up Mike Eastman's Elk Hunting Revisited book. Also, if you're hunting in CO, the Division of Wildlife 800# guys can be really helpful.

Sorry but the Christmas holidays got the best of me and then came down with a horrible cold. Yes sir, we are booked for the 3rd rifle season November 1-5, 2014. Will be in a drop camp and hunting Unit 74. CC, if you have some information I would appreciate it. We are only 299 days away.

I don't know the outfitter, but have hunted some in 74. I hunt a lot in 71, directly west of 74. Lots of up and down and canyons. There are a number of outfitters who use this unit (don't know exactly how many) plus lots of private stock, seen them at the various trailheads. Can be pretty good, especially with a little weather. Ask and see if you can find out where the drop camp is in the unit and what county road their trailhead is on. If you find out more about where in the unit you will be, PM me.

Welcome, I'm a newbie myself and I gotta say, this is the best site i've been on. You can find a ton of great advise from a lot of veteran hunters on here and u can just shoot the shit if you want. It's like being at camp when you're at home!!! I've hunted Elk...ONCE so my only elk hunting advise is don't take any elk hunting advise from me! You'll find plenty on here though.
