Access is listed as difficult by the G&F even though on the map it looks like there is a lot of BLM land. That could be because a lot of it is landlocked due to no public roads touching a lot of it and that is the only legal way to access public land unless you pay a rancher to go through their property. I assume you mean you each have 6 PPs and that will not assure a tag for that unit in the regular draw based on last years odds, but could probably be drawn if you put in for the Special higher priced draw.

There's plenty of publically accessible area in 89. There's also a huge walk-in area (like 100,000 acres huge). That's where'd I'd look for one of those 6+ year old sage bucks to be hiding.

I have herd kinda mixed reviews on access in 89. It is 1 of the units I will be interested in when I get a few more points saved up. There is a thread around here with some good info on it.

I would call the biologist in Casper. I can't remember his name but I've talked to him before and he is a really nice guy and very helpful.

The biologist out of Casper is fairly new. She does not know as much about the areas as Justin Binfit. If you can get ahold of him he is very knowledgeable about the area. My prediction is that both would tell you 89 is a good area and public access is very doable. If I was a NR and had that many points I would be placing 89 near the top of my list.

Two years ago my cousin drew an 89 tag after 7 years of trying. He hunted 9 - 10 days and never did find the big one. The one he shot grossed right at 175. I've hunted antelope out there several times in recent years. There's usually no lack of hunting pressure and atv's with deer, elk and antelope seasons all going on at the same time in that country...

That's too bad that Justin is gone, I talked to him last summer and didn't realize he had since left. I guess call the new chick and see what she says.

He still works out of Casper from what I gather, just evidently not in the same capacity.
