    Wyoming Antelope

Hey all new to this forum.
Looking for information on good Antelope units/regions in Wyoming. This would be my first Antelope hunt so really just looking for a good hunt to get some experience. Is there any chance I can get into some good Antelope without having any preference points? Any help would be great. Thanks!

Look for a unit that has leftover tags, which generally means a lot of private property and a need to pay an access fee to get on them to fill a buck tag. If you don't want to pay a fee, then do some good research and find a unit like that and hone in on the limited public land that may or may not hold any animals. You may be best to buy a PP this summer and just get some doe tags this year for a unit like that. Many places will let you shoot does for a small or no fee at all, especially after opening week. Those tags are cheap and you could get enough time on the ground to make a buck hunt in the following year or two.

You can hunt #48-2 which is the later half of a split season with 0 pts. from what I read, if your willing to put in for the Special Draw and pay the extra money. I haven't hunted this unit , but I had good success in a nearby unit and have heard good things about this one for an easy draw unit. You can also get a list of units with leftover tags from WYO game and fish. Good Luck!

Generally units you can draw with no points or 2nd choice will have access issues to public land, lack of public land or both, but if you do your research you can find a unit you can have a good hunt in.

Goo hunting is correct, you could have drawn a 48-2 special tag last year w/0 points. If you're willing to pony up the cash, that could be a good hunt. It's a big unit but has several hunter management units along with a good amount of Public land. I hunted it last year and if you decide to go that route, I'd be willing to tell you what I know. I love to antelope hunt but have a hard time paying $500 for the tag. You had a roughly 30 percent chance of drawing the tag in the regular random draw.

I went on my first antelope hunt this fall. It was awesome and I can't wait to go again. Everyone in my group had 1 pp and we still paid the extra money for the special draw to get a unit that had lots of public access. My thought process was paying a known fee up front for the special draw was safer then trying to find private access after the tags were drawn. I did some research on access fees and aparently they vary widely. Also, if you draw a unit with lots of public land you have a lot more antelope to look over to find the tropy you want. One last thing, buy Mike Eastmans book on Antelope. It is extremely helpful.

Pony up for the more expensive tag for a couple years so you can get your feet wet and go hunt. There's plenty of units you can draw with no points if you buy the premium tag. Just get there a day or 2 early so you can scout and find a place to hunt. Maps and the GPS chip with land ownership will help you too.
You can thank us in October when you kill your first antelope.

Area 74! Lots of Big bucks and about 95% public land. Our family takes about 9 bucks a year out of there. Go just about anywhere you want without having to worry if you are on private land. Lots of waterholes and the terrain is very condusive to hunting antelope. My grand daughter and her first antelope. 225 yards off hand , one shot through neck. Click image for larger version.

The chances of a NR drawing 74 with no points are not very good. It could happen in the random draw but 5-6% odds are not very good odds for hunting this year. I agree it is a good unit but you need a few points to have a good chance at drawing it.
