The Leupold I had was worthless past 300 yards too and was no better then the cheaper Bushnell I already had. I got it for christmas too and took it back to Cabelas and traded it in on the Leica. Kinda felt bad returning a gift but really seemed like a waste to keep something that didnt work any better then what I had too.

Same thing happen to my hunting partner with the same scope. He junked it and went with Ziess

This isnt sounding good for getting a new Leupold. Wonder if the VXII is having problems too? Thinking about getting the 270 a new scope because I would like to have the LRD Reticle and putting the old scope on my AR 204 Ruger if I ever get the barrel for it.

Thanks, I'll sure check into them. I see that now because of Ikeepitcold, I'll have to check-out Vortex as well! Thanks to both of you.

I have 2 vari-x3 4.5 -14 power scopes and the leupold ultimate slam muzzleloader scope and they all are good in my opinion. The varix-3's are about 12 years old and the muzzleloader is about 3-4 years old. Maybe they manufacture the varix-3's somewhere else now I don't know, but it is sad to hear about there troubles. As far as the rangefinder I also use it mainly for archery and muzzleloader so the 300 yard range limit works for me, but disappointing.

I now have the Razor HD spotting scope, Vipor HD binos and a Vipor HS-T rifle scope and I'm very happy with them.

The Ranger range finder is very compact, very clear and has many options but still basic enough for me to figure it out.
Ummm guess where Vortex optics gets their glass. China

Send it in to Leica tell them it's not ranging right and they will send you a brand new one at no cost. I actually had the LRF 900, I think it was the 900 and had problems with it in the cold while coyote hunting like it had moisture in it and froze and then you weren't able to range anything so I sent it in and they sent me a brand new crf 1200 I couldn't believe it. I didn't even pay a penny only too ship it to Leica. They stand behind there equipment 100%.

Yes and no. I have a 2013 Razor spotter built in China and a 2013 Viper HD bino made in Japan.

The differance isn't about where it's made it's the quality of glass.
