    Spot Hogg or Black Gold?

I have a 5 pin Hogg it sight now with the .10 fiber optic wrap on it, but I'm thinking of looking at the .19 Surge from Black Gold Sights.

The Vengeance seems to be about the same as the Hogg it sight I have with the Dovetail rail. I haven't had a fixed bracket sight in a while.

Anyone have the Surge? What you think? Looks pretty bright! I went with the .10 wrap on the Spot Hogg for 3D but its not the best for low light conditions for elk and deer hunting.

    Thoughts?

Have you thought about replacing the pins on the Spot Hogg to .19s. I have .19 pins on my Spot Hogg and have really enjoyed it. I am pretty sure you can just replace the pins or just the part of the sights with the pins. Mark

I would just but some .19 pins. I use .19 pins for the first couple, and then .10s for the remaining. If you are shooting 40+ yards, a .19 pin will take up the whole kill zone or target face nearly. Especially at 50-70 yards. Just a thought.

Spot Hogg is the boss...they even have a model that says so!!! Lol

take your .10 pins, use a flat piece of metal heated up and melt the tips of the fiber optics flatter. (Clarify here the tips you view, not the tips inside the wrap) Makes a bigger brighter dot. When you dont need it so big, cut it off for 3D shoots back to smaller pins.

easy fix, plenty of fiber there to do this often and get the best of both worlds in one site.

I tired to heat them up on both ends and I still am not impressed with the light gathering capabilities of the Hogg wrap. The fibers just don't seem to glow like you would think they would. Its illegal to use the purple haze light in CO. but we are heading to MT this year. Haven't checked whether you can use a light on my sight yet.

Well I guess that answers my question... Looks like I'm probably selling my Hogg... Its gonna be hard to part with. I had the .019 pins on it, but it was just the standard pins, not the wrap. I thought it was terrible in low light conditions.

You cant heat both ends and expect brighter pins bro. The fiber isnt gathering light from its end. Fiber optics on the sight dont work for brightness like an imaging transfer fiber optic does.

they gather light from being exposed to it lengthwise. I have an original SDP cameron hanes edition. This site has short little fibers. Now that site comes standard with the wrap.

that extra length in the wrap is where thee xtra brightness comes from.

The part that needs flattened properly like a mushroom is the end that faces you. I will make a video now and show how it works...edit to follow.

nm my video lessons suck so I recant my offer! Haha
