I use the canvas for several reasons. One is they are budget friendly. You can wash them and reuse them for multiple seasons. Also they are tougher and its hard to get them to tear. Vs say alaskan game bags that can tear pretty easy.
One down side is they are a bit bulky in a pack, and it makes it hard to pack in enough for the job on an elk if you will when in solo.
I hunt because........
I've got both. Depends on if I am on horse back or on foot which one I take. I've had good luck with both.
Horses make carrying the extra weight a lot easier.

Try caribou gear bags www.biggamebags.com Very durable, very light. I used to use canvas as well and loved them, but these new bags are great. I packed a hind quarter, front quarter, and backstraps off of a spike bull in one bag (was all down hill thank goodness). Washed it up and it looks like new. They also have retro reflective strips on them, so if you need to hang meat and come back in the dark you can shine a flashlight and they glow in the dark.

I took cotton sheets and had them sewn to the dimensions I needed. They have worked great for many years. You can easily wash them and reuses them. I've had mine for years.
Just bought one of these guys game bag kits at the RMEF Show in Reno. Light weight, stong, can put them in a stuff sack with my down jacket for extra pillow. Talked with the guy, and I told him that I mostly back pack hunt, and don't want the meat to spoil because the bags don't breath. He told me that wount happen, and if it does he will give me my mony back. Can't beat that.
I also just bought a bunch of the Caribou Gear game bags. Been looking for something like that for a few years now. Great concept. Now just to put them to use!
The beatings will continue until morale improves.
walmart stretchy fabric that breathes (not sure what it is made of) and had the wife make it into a giant pillow case. I also carry those re-usable cloth grocery bags with me as well to put the meat in. With the handles and them being very strong it makes it easy to tie down if need be.
Hi,
I use pillow case liners. They come two to a pack and have zippers on the end. They cost about $5 at Target. I use them and then wash them; they will last a couple of seasons.
