    Wyoming Elk Unit 113

My son has drawn an non-resident bull tag for 113. I was wondering if anyone had any insight or info they would care to share. Thanks in advance!

Congrats on the great tag. I had that tag two seasons ago and it was the best elk hunt ive experienced. I recommend archery hunting as you will see almost no other hunters at that time. The later it gets the more busted up the bulls get because of such a high bull to cow ratio. If you are interested I have some landowner info in the area you could pm me more info. Once again congrats to your son....its a great tag and you should have no problem tagging a great bull

I don't know how many bull tags will be issued to residents for 113 on this every other year hunt, but with only 8 NR tags he'll certainly not be overrun by others!

113 typically has 50 total bull tags I spent a lot of time whitetail hunting in the area during elk season the last year 113 was open and never saw anyone but there are plenty of elk everywhere even in places you don't expect to find them. If there are cattle on public land during rifle season look for elk kinda weird but I see a lot of elk in with the cows out there.

How did you come up with that 50 number when the available stats show that in 2010 and 2012 only 30 bull tags and 14 bull tags were issued to residents? That would put the total bull tag number below 40 in 2010 and below 25 in 2012. It doesn't surprise me on your other statement because elk are grazers and we kill most of our elk every year close to domestic cattle.

Landowners will take a number of available tags.

I was thinking it was fifty, I did not research it before I posted my mistake I guess.

Birdhunter is right and that could possibly account for a decent amount that don't show in any stats that are available. That is one thing that many think needs to change in Wyoming because the number of acres to get a tag is way too low. At least they aren't transferrable like a lot of other states, especially when the tag can not only be used on private, but also public lands in a unit. The Carter family up in TenSleep got busted big time for subdividing acreage into their various names and then were found to be selling those extra landowner tags to NRs for guided hunts. They ended up in Federal Court in Cheyenne along with a number of clients for violation of the Lacey Act that covers interstate game violations when the animals heads and/or parts crossed state lines.

I just looked up the nonresident draw odds for 2014 and according to those only 2 tags (1 special draw and 1 regular draw). I remember reading a post that said tags went 80/20 to residents/nonresidents so with those numbers there is only going to be 10 total this year.

I have no idea how you came up with those stats because they are not correct for elk unit 113-1 in the 2014 draws! The odds show 1 tag in the Random Draw, 1 tag in the Special Random Draw, 3 tags in the Regular PP Draw, and 3 tags in the Special PP Draw for a total of 8 NR tags given out just like I mentioned in my previous post.
