A Bit of What I've Learned

The more experience you have, the more you understand and care about other people.

It is easier to avoid temptation than to resist it.

Love is to will and act for the highest good of another (Thomas Aquinas). Feelings come and go. Knowing that helps.

Lasting love is built on shared struggles and personal sacrifice. No struggle, no sacrifice, no love.

Family deserves much more than the leftovers of our time and energy.

Doing the right thing is always the best thing.

Legitimate guilt is a valuable acquaintance. Lose it and suffer the self-destructive consequences.

The long-term gain always outweighs the short-term pain.

If you are a hero in the outdoors but not a hero at home you have traded dollars for dimes.

The saying that children are flexible and can deal with divorce or frequently changing parents without difficulty is a lie.

God is the person that matters most. Building that relationship makes you a better, more fulfilled person.

Honoring and loving God with all our hearts is our first responsibility and pays the biggest dividends.

You can learn more from others than you can teach others.

We should say more of the compliments we think.

Keep putting others first and they will lift you higher than you could have reached yourself.

The outdoors can kill you or heal you, depending on how well you prepare and use your head.

To be the best you can be is a good thing but you canít do it alone.

A wife and an honest good friend are priceless gifts.

The more you give to other people the richer you are.

No one reads adventure books in which there are no struggles. They donít exist.

Families with handicapped kids are some of the happiest people I know. In surveys, people who live in the worst climates report the most happiness. Itís true.

You grow stronger running against the wind, not with it.

Those due the greatest honor are those who have sacrificed the most, especially parents and those who put their all on the line to protect us. I salute you. You have saved civilization.

"I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus."

    Philippians 1:3-6

That is something that should be read frequently. More importantly, it should be practiced frequently.
