Sorry if I'm dredging up an old dialog.......
The GPS thread got me thinking about other equipment I carry.
I found a thread from last year discussing spot and epirbs, but I couldn't find a thread discussing survival related equipment that folks are carrying.
Admittedly I am probably overdoing it. A lot of that comes from my line of work but some comes from comprise for the sake of being allowed to take off for multiple days on my own.
As I said on the other thread I always carry a primary and back up GPS
In addition I carry a Mccmurdo Fastfind GPS, personal 406mhz epirb (nice because it transmits location as well as distress signal). Rounding out the minimum pack contents are Batteries, Magnesium fire starter, whistle, mirror, strobe, water treatment pills, and three small flashlights. I don't put all the items in one kit but If I did they would come in at about 16oz and fit in a pouch 4x4, 3 inches thick.
I don't carry a snake bit kit or first aid kit for that matter, (a roll of med tape a few bandaids and a gauze pad are always in the pack) for something bleeding badly I'd sacrifice a game bag or shirt.
