    California GPS

Does anyone know if there is a place to purchase SD cards or download GPS maps for Northern California, specifically Modoc County. Just looking to get some detailed maps to have in my possesion while hunting.

Huntinggpsmaps.com has the chips and there are very good. Elevation lines and land ownership.

+1, my onXmaps sd card which is the same company as Huntinggpsmaps.com are great! I live in southern Cali and when I first got my SD card for California I placed it in my Garmin GPS and turned it on while sitting in my living room. I was surprised to see my name pop up as the property owner! Very cool, it works as advertised.

Just picked up the XMaps SD card and yes, it is unbeleivable. It gives Forest / private boundaries, all zone information for all species, it even gives property owners names. Honestly this little SD card is a must have for hunters.

Be warned though. On my recent scouting trip to UT I opened up the back of my Garmin Montana GPS to put in new batteries. The next day I saw that my map chip was gone. The chip must have come loose from it's holder in the battery compartment and fallen out.

Can you believe we went back to where we thought we lost it and found it! It's the size of your finger nail and nearly invisible on the ground. It was sitting in a footprint, which means I probably stepped on it.

Good luck on your hunt CM!

You got lucky by finding it, it would literally be like trying to find a needle in a hay stack.
