    Spot sat phone

Hey guys anyone using or used a spot sat phone? I like the price of this phone and have been doing some searches about it. I would rather buy instead of renting but would like to hear some positive things about it first if there are any. For reference I will be using in western Wyoming and maybe Colorado. Thanks guys

The Spot Sat phone must be a new service from Spot. When Delorme's "in reach" came out I gave both Spot and DeLorme serious research, and checked them out again this spring. At that point Spot was not offering a Satellite phone product. This new offering seems to me to be in direct response to Iridium's contract with DeLorme and DeLorme's development of "in reach."

I state this simply to let you know there may not be all that many people out there who have tried the Spot Sat phone as it is likely a very new product. (Your post was the one that sent me to their web site to find it).

I'd use separate devices. I would own a SPOT, and rent a sat phone as needed. Use the SPOT on all your hunts and when hunting the back country rent the sat phone. I REALLY like the idea of redundancy when it comes to electronics rather than having all your eggs in one basket.

I have had a SPOT for 3 or 4 years now. I hunt mostly solo and am 72 years old and my wife would scream like a scalded ape if I didn't use mine!!

The spot sat phone is a Globalstar GSP-1700 with the Spot name on it. You can read the reviews on that Sat phone if that helps you at all.

I recently purchased one and it works really well. One thing I have found is don't walk around when you're talking or things get in the way and drop your call.
