Sorry to all the non-res folks, tags are getting increasingly harder to draw for us residents also! Tag and license fees are going thru the roof!

NE part of the state. Wolves are establishing a presence there in a big way. I wouldn't start investing in points anywhere over there at this point. The elk populations have barely been able to hold their own due to burgeoning cougar numbers and from what I understand wolves are much more devastating to elk populations!

I hate to say it but the only tag I would apply for as a NR is a sheep tag and given you have to buy the license to apply I would probably just put the money toward sheep raffle tickets. Either way the odds are against you. Sorry guys! If we were smart here we would manage for quality hunting and encourage NR $$$$$$. We manage for quantity hunting though....it's what most people want.

If I were a non-resident, I don't know if I would waste my money on Oregon (though we do have great sheep hunting). With that said, I believe some of the best hunts still go somewhat under the radar. My personal philosophy is there are at LEAST five and possibly seven states with better trophy Rocky Mountain elk hunting and Mule deer hunting. So why apply in Oregon for those? But how many states do you really have a chance to take a trophy Blacktail or Roosevelt? Not too long ago, I burned 16 points on a Blacktail tag (harvested a heavy 21" buck). Last year 70% of the bucks taken on this hunt grossed over 140. This year I burned 12 points on a Roosevelt tag, and I truly believe I have a great chance at a 270+ Roosevelt hunting public access. Just a hint.

I only drew a late season cow hunt that was general season last year. Got a few more years to guarantee my antelope hunt. About 10 for "the" bow elk hunt. been putting in for 22 years. Cant complain though since wife drew the Potamus Bighorn hunt first year it is offered. At least I get to scout and go on a once in a lifetime hunt...even if its not mine.

I probably would have started applying in Oregon but on the site here, I was reading a past edition online with some of the Eastmans staff talking about Oregon and most of them said not to bother with that state. After reading that and seeing everyones post on here, I'm glad that i didn't start to build points there this year...

Won't be building points over in Or., but I am coming over there to hunt Elk next fall. Yeah it's with an outfitter, however it is a drop camp and we are using our own stock. I was invited into a group of 4 and part of my cost was given to me as a gift so why not. I'm usually only DIY but for the price I couldn't say no.
