I work tracking radio-collared elk in the mountains of western Wyoming all summer long, last year I could never think of anything good to eat for lunch, this winter I read Backcountry Bowhunting and have been alternating between PB & bacon on bagels and hard salami and cheese on a bagel. It really fills me up and gives me a lot more energy for the long hikes and big climbs I do everyday. Plus they taste a lot better than freeze dried food. I will definitely be eating them through hunting season this year as well. I've had both sandwiches go as long as 5 days and it was fine even in hot July temps, so I think it could go even longer in September when it's cooler.
"I made one and it was actually good and I am now planning on taking them with me while elk hunting this year!!"
My Son turned up his nose at my Peanut Butter/Bacon/Honey sandwiches......until he tried one last weekend on our scouting trip.
Now, he is hooked on them.
Best of Luck,
