Guy - My brother-in-law and I are coming to Wyoming on our first Mule Deer hunt ever (first trip ever out west). We have put in for special deer draw for Region H, and we plan to hunt the southern Wind River Mountains on the Bridger Teton Forest. We will be hunting on opening day (September 15th) if we draw tags. What do you think our chances of seeing deer are in that area, and should we go somewhere else on public land in Region H for chance to bag a monster mulie?

Darby

Dear Darby,

That is some great country for deer. It is very rough and steep though. I
usually shy away from hunting on opening day because that area gets hit
pretty hard with hunters, unless you either
get way way back there (over 10
miles back) or you have a big buck all scouted out before the season opens.
Almost every creek drainage in that area has produced a big buck at one time
or another to there is no telling which drainage is going to be better than
another unless you scout it out in August.

Just try to get back away from the crowds and find a good vantage point to
glass from. Use your binos and your spotting scope and find a buck then
stalk him in his bed. It is huge, vast country but don’t get discourages it
does hold big bucks.

Good luck and let me know how you do.

Guy - Wow! Thanks for getting back to me. I love your magazine, but I have a few more questions. How the heck do I get a copy of David Long’s Public Land Mulies DVD? I’ve looked all over your website, and there does not seem to be a dropdown menu for ordering this DVD. Also, since you know I will be
hunting in the Big Sandy Quadrangle area of the southern winds, do any of your DVDs or videos chonicle hunts in this area. If so, I would like to know the DVD Titles so I can order them ASAP and get charged up for my trip.

Darby

Dear Darby,

The DVD you are referring to is actually a book with a DVD supplement
included. The Book is by David Long and the title is Public Land Mulies, the
Bottom Line. The reason you cannot find it on the site is that it is not
completed yet. But do not worry, we will have it out about the 1st of July
just in time for you to have that tag in your mailbox from the good old,
Wyoming Game and Fish department. I have a copy of the manuscript right here
on my desk as I type this message, and believe me, you will not be
disappointed! This thing is awesome.

We (Eastmans’) have not really ever filmed down that far South but David
does a lot of hunting in that part of the country as he lives right there in
Big Piney so I am sure the book and DVD will be plenty to get your blood
pumping for the up coming season.

I hope this helps and be sure to check back to the eastmans.com site
sometime in June and get your signed copy pre-ordered.

Good luck and let me know how you like the book!

Guy
