Tips and Tactics: Mule Deer Reality Check

It's that time of year again; a time when we reflect on the fall's hunts and start looking toward next season. This time of year I often feel a sense of distance from the hunt, as next season seems an eternity away; yet some planning and thought must still take place. Opportunities for quality mule deer hunting are far outnumbered by those who wish to have them. Hunts with low tag numbers, good genetics, and great public land access are represented with draw odds that, at best, can be described as intimidating and disheartening.
