The Big Six

It was another hot August day and the sweat was running down my back and the sun was beating on my face - I couldn’t help but smile thinking about the last 20 days. From loosing my glasses to seeing the buck of my dreams, to loosing my range finder to messing up stalks on big bucks, I’d done it all. Oh, and I have to mention my bow falling just the right way and cracking a limb. Still, I was having the time of my life, elk hunting was around the corner and I had to go set up camp with my son, Zach, not only needing a little break from the deer hunting, but I needed some new hunting equipment.

Patience and Persistance

When my dad asked what I wanted to apply for the 2009 season, I told him I wanted to shoot an elk and deer because I hadn’t taken either yet. I’ve hunted for them for a couple years, but hadn’t had any luck. My dad’s best buddy, Nate, knew of a tract of land on the eastern plains that I could hunt. We scouted a couple times before the hunt and saw large numbers of deer and quite a few bucks. I would have been more than happy with any one of the bucks we seen because it would be my first. One of the bucks we seen was exceptional, but I just wanted to get my first deer.
