While Wallowa County, Oregon isn’t paradise, it is about the closest you can get. Driving to work in rush hour means no stoplights. There aren’t any of them in the county. And out in the solitude of the canyons where I hunt are some of the best places I know. Even my brother Mike who moved away to raise a family in Beaverton, Oregon comes back for hunting trips with friends and family. Mike who will have your back when the chips are down. Mike who will come back during hunting season and holidays to spend time with us and think nothing of making a seven or eight-hour drive to hunting camp. Whenever Mike visits he always has something for my boys, a lure that was working for smallmouth on the Snake River, a kind word, a story.
