This hunt started over ten years prior when Wyoming initiated its preference point system. My hunting partner Bret and I got in on the ground floor by buying points that first year. Being that the unit we applied for was known to be a grizzly haven, we put in separately, figuring that if either of us got drawn, the other would tag along as scout, packer and bear watcher, and we would be able to go on two Wyoming elk hunts. Bret got drawn in 2012 and we were able to learn the unit by talking to the biologists and scouting maps. When our feet hit the ground we found our honey hole after a day-and-a-half of scouting.
