We had forgotten the shooting sticks in the truck and the brush was too tall to lay down for a prone shot. I finally decided to rest the muzzleloader over my buddy Aaron’s shoulder. We kept trying to get a clearer shot at him. We reached 50 yards and knew we couldn’t get any closer without spooking him. I rested the muzzleloader over Aaron’s shoulder and waited for what felt like forever for this giant to stand. This was the moment, the result of all our hard work. With one pull of the trigger we saw the smoke from the muzzleloader come out of the end of the barrel and the giant buck stumbling, trying to run away, he was hit hard. He ran over a small rise out of sight....
