Colorado is a great big game state. It dwarfs all other states and provinces for Boone and Crockett mule deer entries with well over 1/3 of the record book. It has recently become one of the top trophy states for Shiras’ moose with 40% more bull licenses than four years ago. It gives out more nonresident sheep tags than any other state by a wide margin, with 17 different units producing rams between 37” and 42”. Colorado and Montana combine to give out ¾ of all the mountain goat tags in the Lower 48. For elk, 2/3 of the state is over the counter, with many limited hunts being fairly easy to draw. In some areas, you can even harvest multiple cows. If you have time and freezer space left over, you can hunt pronghorn or whitetail, black bear and mountain lion.
