Colorado is the undisputed king of the Boone and Crockett mule deer record book, with 4 of the top 10 counties in the U.S. and 13 of the top 25. It is also the easiest place to get drawn for a trophy county though quality can vary a lot by unit.
After a huge snow year two years ago, 2018 had very little, so winter survival rates were way up, but it was also very dry. Trophy quality was down, especially in the southwest, where extreme drought conditions prevailed. I hunted farther north and at higher elevations conditions were very good, so the state did have some good quality.
