When my rifle cracked dropping the bull where he stood it didn’t take me long to turn around and give my full attention to the grizzly sow and her two year old cubs who were heading our direction. I had just harvested my biggest bull to date and I wasn’t about to have him become bear bait. With some yelling and the rim rocks we were below serving as a giant microphone making us sound like an army of hunters, the big sow decided she had had enough. She never got closer than 700 yards but watching her bluff charge our echoing voices and roar back is an experience I won’t soon forget, an experience that is all part of applying for a “high-odds” elk hunt.
