"A hunting rifle should “feel” like a hunting rifle. There’s a huge difference between what’s needed in a competition rifle and a hunting rifle, with weight and handling being the two greatest. A western big game rifle simply should not weigh more than nine or ten pounds wearing a scope and stuffed full of cartridges. If it does, you won’t want to carry it around very long. It should also handle smoothly and without thought. You should be able to settle in behind a western hunting rifle quickly, acquire your target and make a clean shot without having to think too much. "
